Reports: Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim in talks to take over at Manchester United

Manchester United are not waiting long to replace outgoing manager Erik ten Hag, with multiple reports indicating that Sporting Lisbon’s Rúben Amorim is in line for the position.

According to a report by The Athletic, the English giants will pay 10 million euros ($15 million) to release him from his obligations with the Portuguese club, which was due to run for another year and a half.

The 39-year-old Amorim has been in charge at Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon since March 2020, accruing a 170-34-33 W-D-L record, while leading the club to two league titles.

Ten Hag was fired Monday with United sitting 14th in the 20-team Premier League. Amorim has previously interviewed or been considered for jobs with Liverpool, Chelsea and West Ham.
